
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the Spiritual leader of the Shas party, was released from Hadassah Ein Kerem Sunday morning and will continue to rest at home while he recovers from what doctors reported was a minor stroke.
Rabbi Yosef, 92, was taken to the hospital Saturday morning after falling ill. The director of Hadassah Hospital, Dr. Yuval Weiss, said that after extensive testing it was concluded that Rabbi Yosef suffered a light stroke, adding that the Rabbi was fully conscious and coherent during his entire hospital stay.
Shas party leaders visited the Rabbi on Saturday and said he was in good spirits and was communicating well, even regaling them with stories of Jerusalem from seventy years ago.
Prayer services were conducted Saturday night for the speedy recovery of the revered Rabbi and to the surprise of many, the Rabbi was released from the hospital Sunday, sooner that initially expected.
Shas MK Eli Yishai said Sunday morning that "The Rabbi was brought up through the nation. Everything that happens in Israeli society he takes very personally, he worries for the people of Israel in every way."
