Sergeant Elad Abu Gani, who was killed while manning an IDF checkpoint yesterday near Kedumim, will be laid to rest today at 3:00 PM in Tiberias. According to the Shechem Battalion Commander Colonel Yossi Adiri, the soldiers established the checkpoint and shortly thereafter, Arabs opened fire at them from an ambush. Abu-Gani was hit in his head with gunfire and pronounced dead on the scene by an army physician. The unit commander and medic Yaniv Uzi-Dan returned fire and began administering first aide until he was hit and moderately wounded in the shoulder.

The army last night renewed the closure on PLO-controlled Tul Karem in light of warnings of attacks in the area. The IDF also has deployed increased forces along the routes connecting Judea and Samaria with the coastal plain.
