Israeli Ambassador to Washington David Ivri completes his term this week, but the appointment of a new ambassador is being delayed due to disagreements between Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres. Sharon favors former UN Ambassador Dore Gold for the position, whereas Peres wants to appoint the president of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, Danny Gillerman.
Prime Minister Sharon and Foreign Minister Peres will attempt to settle the matter later today. Should the two leaders not resolve their disagreement, Ivri may well continue in his post for another year.
