Students at Haifa University cast ballots yesterday to elect 40 council representatives. Haifa University is regarded Israel\'s most leftwing institution of higher learning. The Arab Hadash party went down from 9 to 5 seats, while the leftwing Dor Shalem party, which had 12 seats last year and led the student coalition, fell apart this year. The center-right Yahad party won 30 seats up from 17 last year. The rightwing Lavi Party (Likud) placed 5 members on the council. Last year, Lavi , did not succeed in winning a single mandate.
