Passengers flying to the United States from Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport will be able to buy liquid products, the Israel Defense website reported on Wednesday.
The decision was made after the Israeli Airports Authority concluded the deployment of a unique security layout for examining tax-free goods and products, the report said.
This activity was done in the framework of efforts to improve the level of service and security for passengers traveling through the Ben Gurion Airport. An advanced technological examination layout is operated at the airport, through which all goods and products sold in the airport’s duty-free shops are examined before being placed on the store shelves.
The operation of the security examination center by the Airport’s security division now allows for the removal of the restriction that existed so far on the sale of liquid products for passengers of flights heading to the U.S., according to Israel Defense. It will further allow people flying from the airport to purchase duty-free products without security restrictions (purchased products will be packaged in the duty-free shops in special bags according to the U.S. standard).
The technological examination center in the heart of the airport’s operational area utilizes advanced, unique examination technologies that allow for dealing with a variety of threats with high professional standards and according to the requirements of the international standard for the issue.
Security at the Israeli airport is among the best in the world, and Israelis have developed some devices that can help improve security in airports around the world.
One Israeli-made device designed for use in airports aims to detect terrorists whether or not they are armed, and to cut back on many security measures that inconvenience all passengers equally.
Another device developed by Israelis extends security screening and metal detection to include the ankles and feet, without requiring shoe removal.
