Tensions are high in the Shati Arab village along Israel\'s southern Mediterranean coast after PLO police exchanged fire with the Hamas gang there on Tuesday. PLO gunmen are deployed in large numbers in the Hamas strongholds of the village and near the mosques in hopes of preventing further shootouts.

Yesterday, PLO forces entered the village to arrest Hamas leader Ahmed Sayid Leved, wanted by Arafat for shooting at PLO gunmen. When armed PLO members arrived at Leved\'s workplace, bullets began flying in all directions which wounded injuring girls, a 27-year-old doctor, and Leved himself. Hamas condemned the PLO, blaming it for the violence.
