Following this morning\'s violence, Public Security Minister Uzi Landau (Likud) said that until Israel destroys the Palestinian Authority infrastructure, no change can be expected in the PLO\'s policy. \"What we have here is a terrorist-supporting entity.\" He added: \"Forget seven days of quiet. Until we destroy the terrorist infrastructure, there is no chance of reaching any agreement.\"

Foreign Minister Shimon Peres (Labor), visiting in India, told officials there that the only solution to the conflict between Israel and the PLO is a diplomatic one. \"The Palestinians are tired and fed up,\" he said, explaining that the conflict is claiming too high a price from both sides.
