A group of Israeli journalists this week announced a new union of reporters in Israel who cover the Jewish Diaspora.

The 'Jewish Diaspora Journalists' Association of Israel' brings together under one umbrella journalists from different media outlets who cover the same subject.

The primary goal of the new association is to strengthen the relationship between journalists and key figures in the Jewish world and Israeli politics, with the aim of improving coverage of events as they occur.

Members of the group will gather to share knowledge and opinions on the field and to organize news briefings and conferences, said organizers Benny Teitelbaum and Zvika Klein.

Other similar organizations include the IDF Correspondent Association and the Arab Correspondent Association.

"Coverage of Jewish Diaspora is lacking in the Israeli media and unfortunately, it barely exists even though there is no shortage of news happening throughout the Diaspora,” said Teitelbaum, Jewish Diaspora correspondent for Kol Israel (Voice of Israel) and Klein, international desk editor for the Makor Rishon newspaper.

"We want to enhance the Israeli public's knowledge about what is going on with Jewish life outside of Israel,” organizers said.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon congratulated the group on its formation and promised his assistance in any way possible.
