The Mitt Romney campaign said last week that it had raised $100 million in August, alone, Politico reported.

The campaign’s finance director, Spencer Zwick, revealed the amount during an event with top fundraisers at the Republican National Convention, according to a source who was present.

The Romney campaign did not respond to requests for comment on its August fundraising tally, which it is likely to release publicly in the coming days, according to Politico.

August marks the third month that the Romney campaign surpassed the fundraising efforts of its Democratic adversary.

"Our strong fundraising is a sign that Americans are tired of President Obama’s broken promises and want a change of direction in the White House," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement released in May, the first month fundraising for the Romney campaign exceeded that of the Obama campaign. "We will continue the hard work of raising the resources to defeat President Obama so that we can elect Mitt Romney and Republicans up and down the ballot to get our country on the right track again."
