A record crowd, estimated at 70,000 people attended the 25th annual Tzfat Klezmer Festival. The music event took place August 20-22 in the northern Galilee city. The festival celebrates klezmer music, the traditional music of the Eastern European Jewish people which also took on a life of its own in Israel, particularly in Tzfat.

Traditional and modern music was featured including well-known Israeli acts such as Yonatan Razael, Mirel Reznik, Aharon Razel, Eyal Shiluah, Erez Lev-Ari, Daniel Zamir, Musa Berlin, Jimmy Lloyd, the Klezmiriot and others from around the world. A masters class taught by famous klezmer musicians Giora Feidman and Hanan Bar Sela occurred as well. Visitors took part in tours of the city, known as the home of Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition.

Mayor Ilan Shochet said, "The Klezmer Festival is one of the symbols of the revitalized city and we welcome the tens of thousands of expected visitors."
