Magen David Adom emergency service has asked the public to donate blood and help it replenish its stock, as it faces a shortage in donors.
The shortage occurs every year in August. MDA is unable to receive 1,200 donations per day at this time of year, as it does during the rest of the year, because so many people are on vacation.
The stores of blood at MDA's disposal have been severely depleted, and there is difficulty in supplying enough blood to the hospitals. This difficulty could force curtailment of the medical activity and postponement of operations.
The shortage is in all blood types, and especially in O type blood and all Rh negative blood types. Donors receive a year's free blood insurance for themselves and their closest relatives.
The blood donation sites are published on the MDA website (in Hebrew) at this link.
