The “Golden Age” is arriving in Judea and Samaria, where the first home for the elderly is to be built in Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem.
A contract was signed last week for the construction of 140 residential units and a shopping area on more than two acres (nine dunam) in the community of Alon Shvut.
“I believe this is a foundation stone that will improve the lives of elderly residents of Gush Etzion,” said regional council chairman Davidi Pearl.
Approximately 450 people who are aged 65 and older live in Gush Etzion communities, which include the city of Efrat, Alon Shvut, two kibbutzim and other communities. More than 40 elderly people are designated as in need of personal care.
The project needs the approval of the Defense Ministry, which is the authority for new buildings in Judea and Samaria. After building permits are received, bulldozers can start work on the two-year building project.
The plan for the commercial center includes a bank, grocery store and restaurant.
