The Knesset passed the preliminary reading of a proposal yesterday that will halt National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) pension payments to the families of Israelis (Arab) killed or maimed while carrying out terror attacks. The new legislation, introduced by MK Zvi Hendel (National Union) received the support of 32 MKs including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Eleven Knesset members from the Arab factions and Mossi Raz of Meretz voted against the bill.

Prime Minister Sharon told Hendel in the plenum, \"You know that it is not easy for me to [physically] run, however the law that you suggested is important and essential, therefore I made a great effort and came especially to vote for it.\"
