The head of the U.N.'s drug fighting agency has criticized anti-Semitic remarks made by an Iranian vice president last week.
A United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime statement says agency chief Yury Fedotov expressed "his dismay and serious concern" while meeting with a senior unnamed Iranian diplomat in Vienna "about the anti-Semitic comments of Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi," The Associated Press reported.
Rahimi was cited by Iranian media as saying that "the spread of narcotics in the world emanates from the teachings of the Talmud... whose objective is the destruction of the world."
European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton also condemned the remarks saying, “"Such statements are unacceptable and should not be tolerated.”
