The Haifa Technion Israel Institute of Technology is considering firing campus Rabbi Eliyahu Zeini over an opinion piece that he published on Arutz 7’s Hebrew website. In the article, Zeini wrote that Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and the founders of Oslo bore moral responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Zeini also proposed that Peres be declared persona non grata “for his efforts to shake off his moral responsibility for what took place in New York.” Zeini’s article also included many comparisons between Yasser Arafat and Osama Bin Laden. National Religious Party legislator Shaul Yahalom called the Technion’s response hypocritical. He said that when people on the left utter remarks such as the Jerusalem professor who compared “settler” children to children of the German Reich, no action is taken, but when Rabbi Zeini makes certain remarks, his character is questioned.
