Former Arab MK Abdul Wahab Darawshe this week urged president Moshe Katzav to address the Palestinian Legislative Council in Ramallah and call for a one-year \"HUDNA\" (cease-fire) between Israel and the PA. According to Palestinian Media Watch Director Itamar Marcus, while in the eyes of the western media Darawshe would appear to be a “peace-lover,” he sings a different tune when talking to reporters in Arabic. In a recent interview with the Palestinian Authority daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, Darwashe accused Israel of being an aggressive and murderous nation and says that calling for a hudna is merely a tactical move by the Arabs to win favor in the eyes of the world. Darwashe explains that a hudna is a way for the Arabs to get their “foot in the door” towards the, “Liberation of Palestine” while striving for true peace with Israel is not part of the equation.



In a PA television interview with former Arab MK Abdulmalik Dehamshe, he was asked why the Palestinians should negotiate peace with Israel. Dehamshe explained that, “We don\'t really mean peace, but hudna.” He goes on to say that, “One can\'t make peace with Jews” but rather the policy is to negotiate a temporary cease-fire in order to “liberate Palestine.”



PLO leader Yasser Arafat has often compared the Oslo accords to the Hudaibiya agreement between Mohammed and the “heretic” tribesmen of Mecca. After several years of hudna, Mohammed’s forces breached the agreement and conquered Mecca wiping out the “heretics” in the process.
