A physician’s investigation into the murder of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin suggests that convicted assassin Yigal Amir did not fire the fatal bullets that killed the premier on Nov 4th, 1995. Itim news agency reports that at a press conference held in Tel Aviv yesterday, Yaakov Varker, CPA, announced the findings of the investigation conducted by Dr. David Chen, a physician affiliated with Assaf HaRofeh Hospital. The Ministry of Health did not permit Dr. Chen himself to present the conclusions of his research. Chen’s findings show that the bullets fired by Yigal Amir were copper-headed while the pathological findings on Rabin’s body show that lead bullets killed him.

Participants at the conference demanded the establishment of a government-appointed public committee to re-investigate a series of questions surrounding Rabin’s murder. Rabin\'s daughter MK Dalia Rabin-Pelosoff, in an interview four years after the murder, listed some of the unanswered questions which she said, \"trouble me every day:\"

\"Someone shouted, \'This is a blank\', and there is no answer as to who shouted.... My mother rang me at home immediately after it happened and told me, \'They shot Abba [Father], but it\'s not for real.\' … When the security people drove her in a different car to the hospital, they told her that it wasn\'t real. And when she asked questions, they were silent and did not answer a single question of hers...\"

\"There are very many question marks around everything that happened immediately after the assassination. How was it that in the car that drove Imma [mother-- the late Leah Rabin], the security people did not speak with anyone the entire way? Why didn\'t they let Imma drive with Abba? Why did they separate them and take her in a separate car? ...\"

\"Why did they take Imma from the place of the assassination? Why did they want to hustle her away from the scene of the event as fast as possible? Why did they tell her that this was an exercise? What exercise? And what happened to the so-essential instincts of every security person? Why didn\'t they immediately kill the assassin? How did it happen that they didn\'t shoot him? ...\"

\"They accuse Yigal Amir. But it is not so simple. It is much deeper, and much more complex... I know that we in the family will find no rest until we will know the truth... [Also] for example, the inconsistency between the report of the doctor who received Abba when he arrived at Ichilov [Hospital] and the pathology report. This does not leave me. The feeling of frustration is very, very difficult...\"

Prof. Aryeh Zaritsky also spoke at yesterday\'s Tel Aviv conference. He asserts that there was undoubtedly a conspiracy among close Rabin aides who worked to de-legitimize the opposition and place the responsibility for the assassination on the entire right-wing camp. Zaritsky further said that the investigation of the murder shows that Yigal Amir could not have been the assassin.

Author Barry Chamish, who has published books contradicting the official government findings of the Rabin murder, attended yesterday’s press conference. Chamish has been speaking throughout Israel and internationally explaining his findings, which conclude that Amir actually fired blanks and was not the assassin. Chamish points out discrepancies in the conclusions of the government-appointed Shamgar Commission that investigated the assassination.
