Special anti-terror units of the IDF crossed into a PLO-controlled area in Gaza this morning and seized Riyad Iyad, a commander in Arafat\'s Force 17. Iyad is considered one of the main organizers of shelling attacks on Israeli towns along Israel\'s southern Mediterranean coast. Iyad\'s father, Masoud, was a senior terrorist who was eliminated in an Israel Air Force helicopter operation two months ago.



Four Hamas members were apprehended in a pre-dawn operation in Kabatia, east of Hadera. One of them, Nasser Zachrana, is on Israel\'s wanted list. At the beginning of the operation, the PLO received notice of the IDF initiative through the coordinating apparatus. During the operation, Arabs opened fire at the IDF force several times. Israeli troops seized the guns used against them.



Last night, Israeli paratroopers and border police apprehended five Arabs in Kalandia, north of Jerusalem. The suspects are believed to be involved in terrorist and criminal activities.



Security forces yesterday arrested two Arab suspects near the village of Azzoun in the Shomron. The two had kidnapped other Arabs who cooperated with Israeli security services and turned them over to PLO security for interrogation. The two suspects also participated in clashes in the area.



Also yesterday, the Imam of the mosque in the PA village of Ouja, in the Jericho area, was placed under arrest for incitement to violence. In his sermons, the Imam has repeatedly called for attacking Israeli forces. Police are reporting that the 45-year-old suspect has admitted to personally taking part in firebomb attacks against Israeli vehicles.



In other war news, Arab forces last night opened fired on an IDF jeep patrolling near Shechem… Soldiers in southern Gaza, in the Rafiah area, were attacked by gunfire and grenades… A vehicular convoy traveling in the northern Shomron near Silat a-Daher was attacked by gunfire yesterday evening. No injuries were reported in any of these incidents.
