Israel\'s Ministry of Education is changing its teaching map of Israel to include Yesha (Yehuda, Shomron & Gaza) communities. The move comes in response to a letter that Ariel Mayor Ron Nachman sent to Minister of Education Limor Livnat, explaining his shock when he learned that Yesha Jewish communities do not appear on the map used in the schools. An investigation revealed that the map currently in use dates back to 1973, and the only community in Yesha that is included is Kibbutz Kfar Etzion. Ministry officials have issued a directive instructing all schools to use the new maps and to refrain from further use of the now outdated maps. The ministry has also issued a five-year date by which time the textbooks containing the old maps must be updated.
