Anti-missionary group Yad L'Achim warned Tuesday that missionaries have been handing out leaflets inviting people to kosher public Pesach Seders that are in fact missionary events.
"The shocking public Seders that the missionaries are holding in a series of places, of which Yefet Street in Yafo is the central one, is disgraceful," the group stated. "This only proves that we all must work to bring about the legislation of the Missionary Law and put an end to the missionaries' atrocious activities."
The group said that the events demonstrate "the unbearable ease with which missionaries feel free to act as they please, including lying to entire sectors of the public, on their way to achieving their nefarious goal of causing Jew to leave their religion."
Yad L'Achim is preparing unspecified "countermeasures," it said, and at the same time, it is preparing a number of public Seders of its own. These are largely intended for groups including Russian-speaking immigrants, "survivors" of missionary activities, and other populations that can potentially be preyed upon by missionaries.
The Seders will be held in Haifa, Netanya, Ramat Gan and Holon. During the days of Chol Hamoed, Yad L'Achim will conduct "seminars on wheels" for at-risk people in the form of pilgrimages to the tombs of Tzaddikim.
According to Yad L'Achim USA, the proposed "Missionary Law" amendment would "end missionary activities, which ironically are now permitted under the present law, which only bans apostatizing minors or bribing adults to convert with money or gifts."
