A 6.3-magnitude earthquake rattled Mexico City on Monday at 12:36 p.m. local time. The temblor, centered close to Ometepec in the southwestern state of Guerrero, was felt in Acapulco and Veracruz as well.

Buildings swayed and people streamed out of offices, but no one was reported injured, nor was there any apparent damage.

Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard told reporters that telephones were still working and that a preliminary flyover did not show initial damage to the city.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the epicenter, placed at a depth of 6.2 miles (9.97 kilometers), was located near the border of Guerrero and Oaxaca states.

The site is very close to the area where a more powerful temblor struck two weeks ago.

U.S. President Barack Obama's 13-year-old daughter Malia was traveling in the area on a school program when the 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck, but she was unhurt. Nearly a thousand homes were damaged, but miraculously, not a single person was killed.
