Two British journalists working for Iran’s government controlled English-language PRESS TV have been arrested in Libya on charges of spying. They also possessed IDF equipment, namely -- a bandage.
"With regards to the two detainees from Britain, they were in Libya illegally, without a visa or entry stamp," Libyan militia commander Faraj Swehli told reporters.
He did not say which country allegedly hired them as spies. The journalists were identified as Nicholas Davies and Gareth Montgomery-Johnson, who were filming in “sensitive areas” in Tripoli and whose conduct was considered suspicious by the militia.
“Evidence” that they may be spies was their possessing a “Made in Israel” IDF bandage, which apparently was considered as cause to consider them spies, although the Mossad was not specifically mentioned as a possible employer.
"If we conclude that they are spies, we will hand them over to our intelligence services," Swehli said. He showed reporters photographs of the journalists testing a gun. Officials also said they found pornography on their laptops.
British officials and human rights officials have been allowed to visit the journalists.
