IDF Sergeant (res.) Michael Sidbon, 23, of Beit Shemesh, was laid to rest at 1:00 PM today in the Ashdod military cemetery. He was killed in an Arab attack along the Jordanian border on Tuesday morning. Sidbon was a combat medic who ran - under fire - to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. Minutes before, he phoned his wife to say that he was about to embark on a dangerous mission. He was shot in the course of treating the wounded and later died of his wounds. Sidbon and his wife had just purchased their first home in the town of Bet Shemesh.
Three other soldiers who were injured during the attack are being treated at the Rambam Hospital in Haifa. Doctors said that 21-year-old Bedouin tracker Ayman Ali, who was shot in his spine, may remain a paraplegic as a result of his wounds. Ayman, who was due to be married in three weeks, comes from a long line of IDF trackers. One of the other soldiers injured in the attack is listed in serious condition; the third was lightly injured and is expected to be released in the next few days.
IDF Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz said yesterday that he met the reserve soldiers, who fought yesterday\'s battle along the Jordan River, just last week. He said that the terrorists managed to avoid arousing the suspicion of the Jordanian army by carrying hunting and not assault rifles.
