A suicide bombing was prevented in Haifa last night. The city was put on high alert yesterday afternoon as a result of specific intelligence about a suspected suicide bomber on the loose. The massive police and army manhunt eventually led to the capture of two Arabs, who were on their way to massacre civilians. Police announced the arrest of the two terrorists today.
Yesterday, Arabs detonated a powerful roadside bomb against a convoy of Israeli vehicles making their way to Netzarim, on Israel’s southern Mediterranean coast. No injuries were reported, but one vehicle was damaged in the attack. Later in the night, Arabs fired at Israel Defense Force positions at nearby Neve-Dekalim and Rafiach. The soldiers returned fire. Another gun battle took place further south near Gadid. No injuries were reported in any of these shootings.
Last night Arabs hurled two firebombs at an Israeli vehicle near Barkan, east of Tel-Aviv. No injuries were reported.
In a positive development, the Shin Bet, Israel’s security agency, announced today that it arrested Mohammed and Yusuf Alkam. The two brothers are Hamas members responsible for coordinating the December 3rd suicide bus bombing in Haifa that killed 15 civilians. They are from the northern Shomron village of Jalkamus, east of Hadera.
Also today, the IDF demolished the abandoned building that was used by Arab terrorists to carry out the December 12th attack on Israeli bus passengers near the Shomron region town of Emanuel. The terrorists exploded a roadside bomb under the bus and then used the building as a shelter in order to fire on and throw grenades at those fleeing for their lives. Ten Jews were murdered in that assault. Emanuel Mayor Yisachar Frankental had relocated his offices to the abandoned building in protest that it had not yet been destroyed by the IDF.
