A death threat to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was posted on his official Facebook page, and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) is investigating.

The Likud party and the office of the Prime Minister informed security officials of the threat, according to the Hebrew-language Yisrael HaYom newspaper. The Facebook threat stated,” You will be a victim just like [assassinated former Prime Minister Yitzchak] Rabin.” The Likud and the Prime Minister’s office confirmed the report but did not comment.

Journalist Yair Lapid, who last week announced he will enter politics, also discovered a death threat on his Facebook page. Later, a 16-year-old Bnei Brak youth turned himself into police and confessed to the offense.

As in the threat to Prime Minister Netanyahu, he warned Lapid that “what will happen to you is very, very similar to what happened to Yitzchak Rabin.”

He also cursed Lapid and late father Yosef (Tommy) Lapid, who was the founder of the staunchly secular Shinui party and which gained 15 seats in the Knesset before disbanding.

The younger Lapid has vowed not to promote hatred of any sector of Israeli society.
