MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) voiced his displeasure Tuesday with the announcement by Noam Shalit – father of freed IDF soldier Gilad – that he intends to join the Labor party.

"Noam Shalit made political capital from the campaign for the release of his son and now he is realizing his gains," said Eldad. "It pains me to see that the main characteristic of the new politicians joining the political arena is that they are celebrities trying to capitalize on their celebrity status."

Eldad gave an only slightly exaggerated depiction of the current political climate: "A person who was voted out of the third season of the Big Brother reality show joins a party that is made up of journalists or those whose relatives were abducted or arrested – this does not bode well for Israeli politics."

Rumors say that Karnit Goldwasser, whose husband Ehud was killed by Hizbullah, may join the party that Yair Lapid intends to form. Hizbullah returned Ehud Goldwasser's body to Israel, along with that of another soldier, Eldad Regev, in exchange for five terrorists and almost 197 bodies of slain terrorists.
