The Al Qaeda affiliated Abdullah Azzam Shaheed Brigades in Lebanon claimed responsibility for firing four Katyusha rockets at Israel on Tuesday.

"The missile unit of the mujahedeen of the Battalions of Abdullah Azzam bombed the enemy's colonies in northern Palestine from southern Lebanon and the missiles struck their targets," the message said. "The victory is from Allah."

Government-run Voice of Israel said that the group has been involved, in the past, in firing Katyusha rockets at northern Israel from Lebanon, and from Sinai at Eilat and Aqaba.

The Lebanese army has admitted to one rocket attack on Israel overnight but said it does not know who fired it. Hizbullah has not commented.

It was reported earlier that Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL located the launcher that fired the rockets into the western Galilee late on Monday.

A battery and timer were found near the launcher indicating it was set to fire automatically so as to allow the terrorists time to escape before the launch.

At least four missiles were fired in the cross-border salvo. The missiles exploded near Israeli border communities. There were no physical injuries reported, but one missile hit a chicken coop while another struck a gas tank, resulting in a fire. The IDF responded with an artillery barrage targeting the launch site.

After the shooting, IDF officials said, The IDF stated, "The Israeli army considers that it is a serious incident and believes that it is the responsibility of the Lebanese government and the Lebanese army to avoid this kind of attacks."

Named after the late Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, a self-described 'Palestinian' from Jordan who was among the first Arabs to volunteer to join the Afghan jihad against the forces of the then Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, the Abdullah Azzam Shaheed Brigades have branches in numerous countries.

The Lebanese branch is widely believed to be closely tied to other assorted 'Palestinian' terrorist groups focused on Israel's destruction, such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
