Among its many other programs, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Inc. - usually known simply as the Joint - runs occupational training centers for the hareidi public. The project managers recently visited the Migdal Ohr Educational Center in Migdal HaEmek, and declared that Migdal Ohr will serve as the project\'s northern center. Migdal Ohr Institutions Dean Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman praised the Joint for helping Torah-background family men acquire a profession in an \"appropriate atmosphere.\" He emphasized that the overriding goal of the project must be to find work for the students, which he says will be the \"ultimate test of the project.\"

Rabbi Grossman arrived a quarter of a century ago in Migdal HaEmek, a development town in the southern Galilee, straight from Meah Shearim. He felt strongly that it was not his destiny to remain within the four walls of his comfortable and traditional community, but rather to bring Torah to the wider public. The tiny yeshiva he founded then is now an empire of 28 institutions for some 6,000 students, including nurseries, elementary schools, high schools, and yeshivot for religious students, irreligious students, and new Russian immigrants.
