As the Palestinian Authority prepares to present its request for recognition of statehood to the United Nations, a delegation of Israelis led by MK Danny Danon (Likud) arrived on Monday at the "Ohel", the burial site of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson, in Queens, New York, to pray that the PA’s unilateral move is thwarted.
The Israeli representatives lit candles and prayed for the success of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who will land in New York on Wednesday and is scheduled to speak in the UN before the vote on the Palestinian statehood bid.
“This is a very important week for the people of Israel, and I’m very proud to come to see the resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe at the beginning of this week,” Danon told Arutz Sheva.
“We know that if we stand on the main issues and not bend in front of the pressure being applied on us, we’ll go back to Israel stronger than we came,” he added. “This is the heritage of the Rebbe and the heritage of the Jewish people and we’re all committed to continue it.”
