Hopes that Arafat\'s speech last night would bring about a cessation of Arab attacks against Israel were short-lived. Only hours after Yasser Arafat called upon Arabs to stop killing Jews, terrorists fired two mortar shells at an Israeli position north of the Egyptian border. Also soon after the Arafat speech, Arabs firebombed an Israeli civilian car traveling east of Kiryat Gat. There were no injuries in the assaults.



This just in: As we go to press, Arabs opened fire on Israeli civilians traveling east of Tel Aviv (near N’vei Tzuf). Initial reports said one Jewish civilian has sustained moderate to serious wounds. An IDF chopper evacuated him to the hospital. In a second shooting, Arabs hit two Israeli motorists, a father and son, north of Jerusalem near Ofra. They sustained light-moderate wounds and are being taken to a Jerusalem hospital. Other Arab attacks which followed the Arafat call for a halt to violence:

  • Shooting against IDF soldiers near the Arab villages of Tubas and Tamun in the northern Shomron region

  • Shooting at soldiers near the Elon Moreh Junction, east of Netanya

  • A bomb exploded near an IDF tank guarding the community of Har Bracha

  • Gunfire directed at soldiers near Shilo, north of Jerusalem. Israeli troops returned fire.

  • An anti-tank grenade fired at soldiers near the town of N\'vei Dekalim, along Israel\'s southern Mediterranean coast

  • Shooting at soldiers in the Gush Etzion district, south of Jerusalem

  • Shooting this afternoon at soldiers north of Ramallah

  • Two explosive devices found in the Shomron in the Mount Eval area, not far from PA-controlled Shechem and were neutralized by bomb demolition experts.



There were no reports of injuries in any of these attacks.
