The US-based Sanford Health group is building a new children’s clinic in Carmiel, in the western Galilee, one of seven new clinics the Sanford group will build around the world. The comnplex is to open in 2014.

Like other Sanford Children’s Clinics, it will provide general pediatric services to area children and be designed like a castle. The new clinics are part of initiatives outlined after a $400 million donation from South Dakota businessman and philanthropist Denny Sanford in 2007.

Maccabi Healthcare Services will partner with Sanford Health and provide sub-specialty pediatric services in the new healthcenter.

“Carmiel is called ‘the city of families and children’ and the need for children’s health care services is rapidly growing with tremendous numbers of young families,” stated Dave Link, Sanford Health senior executive vice president. “Access to health care outside the city center in residential areas is limited, so we are pleased to be able to expand health care to this area of need.”

“The Carmiel, Israel area is experiencing rapid growth and with that comes the incrased need for health care. In fact, according to the national master plan, by 2020 this city will have a population of approximately 120,000 residents, many of them children,” stated Dr. Gaby Polliack, head of  Maccabi Healthcare Services’ Primary Health Care Division.“

Other clnics are to be built in  the Baja area, Mexico and Ghana and Africa.

Sanford Health is headquartered in Northand South Dakota and is the largest, rural, non-profit health care system in the United States.

The health group includes 34 hospitals, 116 clinic locations and more than 900 doctors.
