The bodies of a couple in their 60s, Noah and Nurit Maoz, were found in their home at Ramot, Jerusalem, Sunday. Both bodies bore signs of suffering severe violence.

The police said their initial assessment is that the event is criminal, not terrorist. One possibility being investigated is that of a burglary that turned into a murder.

The couple's son, who is in his 30s, found their bodies. Large police and Magen David Adom forces were alerted, but the medical teams could do nothing except confirm that the two were dead.

Noah Maoz, 64, was the administrative manager of a medical clinic in Jerusalem. Nurit Maoz, 60, was Deputy Director of the Patents Authority in the Ministry of Justice. The couple had four sons and daughters. One of their daughters, Tamar, was captain of Israel's national women's basketball team.
