The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) is conducting a search for a military rifle and a pistol that were stolen from a Jewish resident of Hevron who died two months ago, Channel 10 News reported on Thursday.

According to the report, while the family was sitting shiva (the seven-day Jewish mourning period) over the man, IDF representatives came by asking for the weapons that the deceased owned, but soon discovered that the weapons were gone.

The ISA’s Jewish Division, along with the IDF and the Judea & Samaria District of the Israeli Police, has launched an investigation to find who stole the weapons and where they are.

The ISA reportedly said on Thursday that it is worried that the stolen weapons might fall into the hands of right-wing extremists. It did not make mention of the weapons possibly falling into the hands of Arabs, which would be much more dangerous.

“The army, police and Shin Bet are investigating the disappearance of the weapons and the possibility that they might have fallen into the hands of extremist elements,” the ISA said in response to Channel 10’s report.
