The European Union wants Israel to conduct an investigation into the death of two Arabs in their early 20s at Kalandia, north of Jerusalem, on Monday. The Arabs were apparently shot dead when they took part in an ambush of IDF soldiers.
A spokesman for EU Secretary of State Catherine Ashton, said the Union was "saddened and concerned" by the killing of the two men.
United Nations Special Envoy for the peace process in the Middle East, Robert Serry, has also expressed "deep concern" over the deaths.
A force from the Kfir Brigade conducted a pre-dawn raid Monday on Kalandia in order to arrest fugitives. In the course of the action, local men started hurling rocks and bottles at the force. They also fired in the air.
The soldiers used riot dispersal gear and when this failed to stop the attack, fired at the attackers' lower limbs. Two Arabs were killed as a result.
Five soldiers were hurt and required medical attention. One had to be hospitalized.
The military is looking into the circumstances of the confrontation.
The IDF's constant pressure on Arab terror organizations in Judea and Samaria has prevented a resurgence of murderous Arab terror, which has killed over 1,000 Israeli civilians since 2000.
