A reserve-soldiers force thwarted an attempted attack last night along the highway leading to Karnei Shomron. The soldiers saw two Arabs approach the road in a suspicious manner, and then watched one of them throw something at an Israeli car. The force opened fire, wounding one of the terrorists. A search of the site later found a blood-stained gun ready to fire. Israel Police, army forces and specialized units remained on heightened alert today, in light of intelligence community warnings of impending terrorism attempts.

Minister Danny Naveh told Arutz-7 today,

\"I have no expectations from Arafat, [and we\'re] not waiting for anything; the military forces are continuing to take action against the terrorists. There must be constant military pressure upon the PA. We have to act against them as if there were no Palestinian Authority and no Arafat... The left wing often tells us that there is no military solution; I can say clearly that under the current circumstances, there is no diplomatic solution.\"

When asked why, then, Israeli military action has not been very strong since the day Arafat\'s two helicopters were destroyed, Minister Naveh said, \"These operative decisions are made by the Prime Minister and Defense Minister, and I can\'t explain why the level of operations is low. My opinion is that it should be high, both against the PA and against Arafat, because that is the only way to see results.\" Naveh said that US President Bush was quoted today as saying that the PA did not arrest the terrorists it said it had, and that Vice President Cheney said that if Arafat cannot control terrorism, then he is not a trustworthy partner for peace.
