Hundreds of nationalist activists blocked the main entrance to Jerusalem (see video) and Shmuel HaNavi junction Monday, in protest over the police’s “Soviet-style abduction” and interrogation of Rav Dov Lior, Rabi of Kiryat Arba, earlier in the day.

Large police forces confronted the demonstrators and used water cannon against them. Some activists were arrested.

After about 90 minutes in which the junctions were blocked, the entrance to the city was reopened and demonstrators began walking toward the Supreme Court building.

Rabbi Dov Lior, rabbi of Kiryat Arba, is considered a Talmudic genius and is one of the most noted halakhic interpreters of this generation. He believes strongly that the land of Israel in its entirety belongs to the Jewish people and is against compromises on the issue, is not afraid to speak his mind in Jewish law whether controversial, politically correct or the opposite.

A large demonstration has been scheduled for 7:00 P.M. opposite the Supreme Court.
