Vandals struck a northern Greece Holocaust memorial for 50,000 Jews slaughtered in the Nazi era, the European Jewish Press reported. The anti-Semites left behind a Star of David and a swastika along with a message, ”That’s a lie” scrawled on the bronze plaque at the memorial.

The vandalism in the city of Thessaloniki coincided with the local council’s decision to honor 30 Holocaust survivors in the city.

The Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki condemned the anti-Semitic attack and urged that authorities track down the vandals, according to EJP .

The Greek Education Minister and city officials also condemned the attack, reportedly the first in the city in 65 years.

Previous anti-Semitic incidents the past two years have targeted synagogues, Jewish cemeteries and other Holocaust memorials in the country and on Crete.
