The WikiYeshiva site is growing – and is running a campaign to grow even faster.
With nearly 6,000 entries on everything having to do with Judaism, the WikiYeshiva site (meanwhile, only in Hebrew) is the authoritative site on the topic. Sponsored and operated by Yeshivat Beit El’s yeshiva.org.il website (much of which is in English), WikiYeshiva has entries on Jewish belief, Jewish texts, the Land of Israel, laws governing interpersonal relations, Redemption, sages and rabbis, purity, kashrut, the Holy Temple, and much more.
The articles are written, as in Wikipedia, by the community of WikiYeshiva readers, according to set guidelines and as explained on the site. The Bar Ilan Responsa Project has also contributed its know-how and experience to the venture.
Among the current 5,887 entries on the three-year-old encyclopedia-like site are articles on Environment, Jewish Law, the weekly Torah portion, and more. The newest entries on the site include the Judean Kingdom, Yeshivat Yamit, and the classic work Menorat HaMaor.
For the third time, the managers of WikiYeshiva have initiated a contest to attract more writers and more entries. Writers can win prizes such as Jewish books, Jewish music CDs, and more, in accordance with the amount of “points” they amass for writing different types of articles.
