Defense Minister Ehud Barak blames aides for his checking out of a hotel room on London last month and leaving behind hand-written documents. Were they classified? It depends whom you ask.
Channel 2 television reported Tuesday night that handwritten papers in a briefcase in the Defense Minister's room at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge were “highly classified.” They contained notes he had written down, covering issues in talks with a British official.
The Defense Minister’s office denied that documents were sensitive and maintained that everything written on the papers was “unimportant” and already has been made public knowledge through media reports and interviews.
His spokesmen also blamed agents for not checking the room after he had checked out.
The documents were recovered after an Israel businessman, who had checked into the same room, discovered them and called authorities.
