The United States has agreed, for the first time, to allow the installation of advanced non-American electronic equipment - Israeli, to be precise - on U.S.-made planes. This paves the way for Israel to sell the equipment to Greece for its fleet of F-16 warplanes. The deal is expected to be worth up to $500 million, according to Avner Raz, CEO of the Elisra Group, which will supply the equipment. Over the past year, Defense Ministry officials met with top Pentagon officials, including Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to lobby for the deal. The Israeli system includes passive sub-systems that provide alerts, automatically deploys active systems to block enemy signals, and provides pilots with maximum protection against long-range missiles.
