Security at Israeli embassies worldwide has been boosted due to “existing threats” against at least four embassies. The Foreign Ministry reported “irregular incidents targeting Israeli destinations” in recent days.
The four embassies under serious threat were not identified. Security at the targeted embassies has been increased to its maximum level.
Officials believe the threats are coming from Muslim terrorists seeking revenge for the death of Hizbullah arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh. Terrorist groups have blamed Israel in Mughniyeh's assassination in February 2008.
IDF commanders have increased security on the northern border in advance of the anniversary of Mughniyeh's death.
The Counter Terrorism Bureau has issued a warning advising Israelis to stay away from several countries on the anniversary of the assassination. The countries in question include Armenia, Turkey, Georgia, and Venezuela.
