Just over a year ago David Mizrachi's wife Tamar was brutally stabbed at her workplace near Kiryat Arba. David, who raced to the scene in his car, found Tamar's would-be killer, a young Palestinian Authority terrorist, in custody outside. In a rage, he ran over the man.
Now Mizrachi, 56, is facing charges of attempted murder. He was indicted Sunday in the Jerusalem District Court.
Terrorist Wassim Masawa stabbed Tamar Mizrachi and a male employee at the Kiryat Arba gas station in November 2009. He was stopped briefly when a security guard shot him, but later, after soldiers arrived, he stood up, cried “Allah Hu'Akbar” [Allah is great], and attempted to stab them as well.
The soldiers fired at Masawa's leg, stopping him. Shortly afterward Mizrachi arrived, asked the soldiers, “Is this the terrorist?” and when they answered in the affirmative, ran over Masawa.
Tamar Mizrachi and her coworker both suffered neck wounds, but survived the attack. Masawa was critically wounded.
Masawa's father said at the time that he planned to sue David, saying of his son, “Could such a sweetheart do something so bad? I don't believe it.”
The 2009 stabbing followed a series of tragedies for the Mizrachi family. David and Tamar had lost their son two years prior when his car was hit by a PA Arab driver. A few months later, their second child, a daughter, was found dead in her home in Tzur Hadassah.
Their only remaining child has condemned the charges against her father, saying, “No one knows what our family has gone through.”
