Israel\'s second-largest daily newspaper, Ma\'ariv, will have a new editor-in-chief starting in May 2002. Journalist Amnon Dankner, who will replace Yaakov Erez at the helm of Ma\'ariv, is a well-known media commentator who recently made waves when he took positions more to the right than generally expected of him or of any mainstream journalist. He wrote in favor of imprisoned Shas leader Aryeh Deri, for instance, and spoke out against the Oslo Agreements. Dankner was recently honored by the Israeli Media Watch organization for taking a stand against monolithic political thought in the media.
