A suicide bomber blew himself up in Jerusalem prematurely this morning, wounding several people. The police feel that either a technical glitch or the presence of a group of policemen nearby caused the bomb to go off earlier than the would-be murderer wanted. The explosive, termed by police “very powerful,” was detonated on King David St., and contained steel nails and bolts to maximize its devastation. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility, saying that the attack had been intended against two government ministers who were staying nearby. Palestinian terrorists murdered thirty-three people since Nov. 24, and wounded over 300.

Palestinian terror attempts continued in other parts of the country as well. Arabs shots at the Yad Ya\'ir outpost northwest of Ramallah and at Psagot, and fired three mortar shells at the northern Gaza community of Dugit; no one was hurt. A short battle took place between Israeli and terrorist forces deep inside Area A near Jenin last night; no Israelis were hurt. A roadside bomb was activated against an IDF tank last night south of Jenin; there were no injuries or damage.

Today, Arabs shot at IDF soldiers northwest of Ramallah; no one was hurt, and IDF soldiers returned fire.

The interrogation of a terrorist who was arrested several days ago led GSS investigators to two explosive-packs not far from Ashkelon, northwest of Gaza. The bombs were found last night, awaiting use by a suicide terrorist. The suspect\'s interrogation continues.

The Palestinians are complaining that they have been unable to make contact with American mediator Anthony Zinni for the past several days. Zinni met today with Prime Minister Sharon, as well as with European Union envoy Migel Mauritinus.
