Nine days after the catastrophic Carmel fire broke out, one of the Israel Prison Service cadets on the bus it overtook died today of his injuries. Warden Jalal Bisan of the Arab village Kfar Jat, near Hadera, became the fire's 43rd victim when doctors at Rambam Hospital in Haifa declared his death this morning.

Bisan, 29, is survived by his wife and two children. He will be buried in his hometown on Sunday at noon.

One person is still hospitalized for injuries suffered in the Carmel fire: Fireman Danny Hayat of Afula, who suffered burns over most of his body near the ill-fated bus. He is hospitalized in serious condition in Rambam Hospital. Danny's wife is due to give birth in approximately a week.

The 42 other casualties of the Carmel fire include three police officers, a fireman, a 16-year-old volunteer fire-fighter, 36 Israel Prison Service cadets who could not escape the fire-engulfed bus, and the bus driver. The three police officers were Haifa Police Chief Ahuva Tomer, Northern District Operations Commander Lior Boker, and Haifa Transportation Commander Yitzchak Melina.
