An Israeli startup has created a product that although small in physical size, may produce a big impact on the general market.
The Cell La Vie plastic shield for iPhone users, produced by the Wise Environment company, is designed to deflect the electromagnetic radiation produced by cell phones away from the user’s body.
As far back as 2008, a study by Tel Aviv University researcher Dr. Siegal Sadetzki found that prolonged use of cellular phones is linked to the development of cancer. In the past two years, those findings have been further substantiated and people have become increasingly wary of using the phones without some type of protection. Moreover, people are becoming more cautious about living close to cell phone towers in residential areas.
The shield is comprised of a plastic film that is applied to all sides of the iPhone with adhesive once the user has first ensured the phone is totally clean. The company provides a special spray and pump with which to clean the phone prior to applying the film.
One the shield is in place, Ronny Gorlicki, Wise Environment vice president of business development says a user’s exposure to the phone’s electromagnetic emissions is reduced by 98 percent.
So far, the company has only produced the shield for the iPhone. Every cell phone has its internal antenna in a different place, Gorlicki explains, which means separate versions of films have to be developed for each one.
