Anti-Israel Conference in Canada
Anti-Israel Conference in Canada

An anti-Israel BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) Conference will be held at the University of Quebec in Montreal this coming weekend.

Among the participating organizations are Islamic groups, radical leftwing NGOs, and Canadian and South African unions. Raising some eyebrows is the co-sponsorship by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers of the event.

One major player in the conference is Tadamon!, a group that supports freedom and national self-determination for the Arabs of the Land of Israel. Tadamon! blames the failure of the peace talks squarely on Israel’s refusal to “stop expanding its colonization of the West Bank” – and does not mention in this connection the continuing official PA incitement and delegitimization of Israel that has led directly to murderous terrorism.

The goal of the conference is to encourage countries to implement any one, or all, of the following anti-Israel measures: Boycotting Israel, selling stock in Israeli companies and cutting off economic relationships with the Israeli government, and international sanctions such as those in place against the most dangerous threat to world peace, Iran.

Among the speakers will be Bongani Masuku, a top official in the Confederation of South African Trade Unions who has been found by the South African Human Rights Commission guilty of anti-Semitic hate speech.

Another speaker is to be John Greyson, a defender of gay rights whose chosen lifestyle would earn him the death penalty in many of Israel’s enemy countries.

The conference opens with a plenary session featuring Omar Barghouti, the coordinator of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. Workshops and strategy sessions throughout the weekend will cover various topics and issues from a variety of perspectives, including, according to an article promoting the event, “queer [homosexual], environmental, labor, and indigenous angles.”
