Effie Eitam, who accompanied the Prime Minister’s mission to the United States to assist in preparations for meeting with American leaders and Jewish organizations, told Army Radio this morning that the American leaders and public \"understand that we have the right to fight the PLO just as they are fighting the Taliban.” Eitam said that Prime Minister Sharon told American administration officials that Arafat “runs the greatest empire of lies in history and the largest terrorist entity… We have no more demands of Arafat; he has not fought terrorism, and we will now do it instead of him.\" Senior officials in Sharon\'s entourage added that PA announcements of arrests and \"cracking down on terrorists\" were nothing more than continued PA propaganda.
Eitam, who resigned over a year ago from the army when his way to becoming a full General was blocked, ostensibly because of his religious and/right-wing views, said that a dramatic change in policy is imminent. \"The goal will be to achieve definite results in the war on terrorism,\" Eitam said. \"Sharon has decided that now is the time for actions… Arafat’s time is up.”
