This year's Latrun 2010 Conference conducted by the IDF Ground Forces Command and the Institute for Land Warfare studies focused on ‘Fighting in Urban Terrain’. The three-day event last week also included a Technology Day that concentrated on Force Protection, sponsored by SIBAT, Israel’s Ministry of Defense Export authority.
Israel National News TV spoke with Brigadier General (retired) Gideon Avidor, Director of the Institute for Land Warfare Studies, who pointed out that the IDF fights to protects Israelis' homes.
The event was attended by foreign representatives from throughout the world including delegations from North and Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The participants discussed the topic of urban warfare in the wake of current threats and confrontations and in wake of the wars in Chechnya (1995), Lebanon (1982), Iraq (2004) and the Cast Lead operation in Gaza (2009).
An exhibition at the conference featured Israeli companies that presented their recent security related developments to the IDF, and foreign representatives and manufacturers showed their products to potential buyers from the IDF.
