In northern Gaza this morning, Prof. Baruch Zinger, 51, of Gedera was murdered and four people were wounded after two Arabs shot at several cars on the road between Elei Sinai and Nisanit. The two were dressed as soldiers, and fired in all directions. An extended gun battle developed between the terrorists, who had infiltrated an Israeli shooting range, and Israeli forces; the soldiers finally killed the two of them with a tank shell. On their bodies were found hand grenades, a bomb, and a Koran in which bitterly anti-Semitic passages were underlined. Prof. Zinger was a professor of electrochemistry at the Nuclear Center in Nachal Sorek.
Shortly after the attack, Arabs fired mortar shells into the same area; no one was hurt.
In yet another shooting attack outside Kadim, in northern Shomron, one young Israeli was seriously wounded. He was flown by helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. There were also several others attacks throughout Judea and Samaria today: a bombing of a bus of soldiers in Jordan Valley, and two more shootings in the northern Shomron, at Ginat and Kadim. In eastern Jerusalem, an Israeli guard shot and killed an Arab; the circumstances are being investigated. Arabs opened fire later today at an IDF outpost near Kfar Darom, north of Gush Katif; no one was hurt.
